Power Of Attorney
Q: Can somebody out there help me on a legal matter. I have some anscetral property in India that I wish to sell off. I have been informed that I have to make out a Power of Attorney to my relative in India who can attend to the matter. I have made a google search and have drafted the document. But is it necessary that I must register it or get it stamped at our Singapore courts. What is the estimated cost? I would appreciate any help.
A: -One law firm is offering this service for $2,500. That is, they will draft the text and file it with the Registrar of Supreme Court. I suppose you must go before the Registrar and execute the deed. Another way is to bring your prepared text to a lawyer who is a notary public and get him to endorse it. Either way you are going to pay thru the nose I am aware of the danger of giving the PA to a relative. I will accept your advice and take a trip there to sell off the property. Initially, I did not want to fly there cos I do not have much leave at the office. Being a third generation Indian here, this will be my first trip to India. Hope to return alive!! he he he -careful now.. by empowering yr relative to sell for you the property, you will get nothing if that relative abscond with the proceeds and there's nothing you can do about it in the courts... here or in india... better
