Just as the normal computers, the portable computers also need the output devices for normal functioning. Therefore, they have respective 'ports' for such output devices. A docking station port is a one-stop shop, in the sense, with this port you can avail the services of all the accessories of a normal computer. An inbuilt modem will help you to connect with anybody wherever you might be-through the phone, fax or email.
