Platinum Vs. White Gold?
Q: I need some opinions. I am thinking of getting my wedding set, which is yellow gold, changed to a white metal - but I don't know whether to get platinum or white gold. I'd have to get the stone reset and also just a new diamond wedding band (the one I have now is CZ.) Does anyone have any preference one way or another? Gold is less expensive, platinum is more durable but I heard it tarnishes? Also, does anyone have any experience buying from the 47th st. diamond district up in NYC - I think that's where I'm going to go because I heard you can get good deals there.
A: My friend has platinum. Her jeweler recommended white gold, but she chose platinum. It scratches more easily, it seems, and she has to have it polished. WG is cheaper. I like Platinum, but I have a tanzanite and diamond 3-stone ring in white gold and I think it looks just as nice. I've had mine for years and I think it looks fine. Not sure how shiny I would want it to be. http://home.pacbell.net/tresjoli/ring3.bmp (this color is the most accurate) I have some people who think it is an estate ring, but I suppose that is the looks of the design, but it was designed especially for me. Maybe it has something to do with the platinum too, but I really like it. It looks somewhat like it is yellowing in this picture, but it doesn't look like that in real life. http://home.pacbell.net/tresjoli/ring.bmp Also, someone was asking about getting a ring to fit better. I don't know what that is called that is on my ring, but that is what I have on it to keep
