Platinum Engangement Ring With White Gold Wedding Ring?
Q: What do you think? My fiance's e-ring has 4 round diamonds on each
side of the main diamond. The ring/setting is platinum.
We went and looked at wedding rings and she loves the wedding ring
with diamonds that matches her e-ring. She said she doesn't care if
its platinum and would be happier if I didn't pay the extra $$$ for
platinum. She says she can't even tell the difference.
Will this be a problem in the future? Will one discolor? What about
if she wishes to 'fuse' them together later?
A:I think you should ask a jeweler about whether the two bands can be fused,
but as for the othe questions - I have a platinum band and a white gold
ring, and there have been no problems with discoloration, nor is the very
subtle difference in color evident to anyone but me. :) If she likes both
rings, I think that you are doing exactly the right thing.
In my experience (albeit limited), platinum and gold gold "age"
differently. Platinum quickly develops a lovely patina, while white gold
doesn't develop one as quickly. Also, depending on the jeweler,
sometimes white gold is "coated" with another metal, rhodium
