Office Harrassment

Q: Long before the term "sexual harrassment" was a commonplace, the old TV show 1-Adam 12 had a show about something that seems classic. One of the protagonists gave a ticket to a flirtatious, pretty woman and she began incessantly pursuing him. It caused a lot of havoc for him and the other cops. Finally, he told his partner, "I made the ultimate sacrifice" to stop the harrassment. "What's that?" the partner asked. "I called her up and asked her for a date!" Does anyone remember this episode?

A: Sexual harassment can certainly be a serious issue. I worked in one office...a few years back...where the women in the office signed a faux contract that they saw sexual harassment as part of the office perks. Of course, the men in that office already knew the difference between flirting with someone who flirted back, and actual harassment. I'm quite sure that kind of thing wouldn't work well in most offices, and when you think about it, the office is the place where most people earn their daily bread, a very serious endeavor.
