Nyu Continuing Education

Q: I'm very interested in applying to NYU for the 1997-98 academic year and i was just wondering if anyone who currently attends the university wouldn't mind providing their stats (SAT score, GPA, class rank, etc) so that i can realistically assess my chances of admission. Any suggestions/ advice for me ????

A:The average composite for the latest entering class at NYU was about 1300 (a bit below it, more like 1275 or something). The average GPA was >3.4, if I remember correctly, but I don't remember a thing about class rank. These are the numbers also include the stats for those admitted to the School of Continuing Education's General Studies Program. The individual colleges have their own SAT averages with the highest being the College of Arts and Science and then the Leonard N. Stern School of Business. The lowest SAT average of all the NYU Schools and Colleges is, I think, the School of Education or maybe even the Ehrenkranz School of Social Work. Apparently students represent

all 50 states, 120 countries with only about 20% from the New York City area. A large number of students from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and the suburbs of New York attend. There also seems to be a good number of students from California here as well. About 7,500 are accepted out of 20,000 who apply and ultimately about 3,000 matriculate. There's a housing shortage, but freshmen are usually stuck into housing near the Washington Square campus. Sophomores and upper classmen are normally shot into the "hotel system" (a chain of hotels in the Midtown region of Manhattan, usually near the NYU Medical Center), or stuck in dormitories in the West Village and Chinatown.
