New York Law?
Q: New York law? Do any one know where I can obtain info about New york Tenant Law. I tried the website rentlaw.com not much help. I have a situation. My neice lives in New York, (19 yrs) she states that the landlord is asking her to pay light, water and her portion of the rent, is this legal? Any help is appreciated. I reside in another state therfore I do not know much about New York law only by surfing the internet.
A: what your niece needs to do is first and formost to look at the contract she signed when she moved into the apartment. If it states that she has to pay utilities then she must pay. If it doesn't state that, then she is not oligated. If she is forced to pay, she needs to talk to an attorney. Make sure she brings the contract with her. Each state is different and even each apartment complex is different.
