New DE Programs From Regionally Accredited Universities

Q: Yesterday I returned from a Coast Guard/Educational Branch convention at Oklahoma City. There I talked to representatives from ME/U, Thomas Edison State College, University of Phoenix, Regents University and Regent University. New programs (this past year) from these schools include: Master's in Science and Management from Thomas Edison State College. MBA and the MPA (Public Administration) from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs -- Enroll through Mind Extension University. Changes in ME/U programs are: University of Maryland University College/Bachelor's Degree in Management is no longer available. The Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Social Science is no longer offered though the Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Sciences and Industry is still in place.

A:Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University (VA). This program is delivered primarily through the Internet with three residencies held at the Virginia Beach campus. Admission Requirements: Master's degree from an accredited institution; three years of relevant professional experience; and graduate entrance exam (GRE, GMAT or MAT). University of Phoenix offerings reported in CF CD: Bachelor of Science with three majors: Administration, Management and Information Systems. The Univ of Phoenix has now added the Bachelor of Science/Administration: Environmental Management. (My notes also included the B.S. with an emphasis in accounting though none of my brochures support this--you may wish to check this out if you're interested). Graduate programs previously reported in CF CD: MBA; MBA/Technology Management; MA in Organizational Management. The Univ of Phoenix has now added the MS in Computer Information Systems and also the Master of Counseling/Mental Health. I thought I'd chime in here to make sure there isn't any confusion concerning the new programs you listed for the University of Phoenix. Although all of the programs you listed are being offered by UOP, most of them are not being offered through our two distance education modes (Directed Study or Online) at this time. The Bachelor of Science in Business (Administration or Management major)with a 15 credit *Minor* in Environmental Mangagement is currently only being offered on-ground at our Colorado Campuses. The Bachelor of Science in Business with a *Major* in Accounting (BSB/ACC) is being offered through Directed Study (e-mail, fax, mail, etc.) by our Center for Distance

Education (as well as on 8 or 9 of the on-ground campuses. Perhaps the emphasis program you were thinking of is The Bachelor of Science in Business/Administration (major) with an Emphasis in Technical Management (BSB/A-TM) which is offered to active military personnel but not through DL (that I'm aware of). On the graduate program side the MS in Computer Information Systems will be offered Online somewhere during the 1st quarter of '97. It is currently being offered at 5 on-ground campuses. The Master of Counseling/Mental Health is being offered at three on-ground campuses. The Center for Distance Education does offer the Master of Nursing Degree though.
