Mother And Child Jewelry Pendant

Q: I'm trying to think of the "perfect gift" for my wife upon giving birth to our first child (four weeks away!). I know I want the gift to be of the "Mother and Child" theme. For example, I saw in a catalog this desktop painted sculpture of a mother elephant and her baby, snuggling. I'm not saying I want a sculpture, or something with an elephant, but that explains the "Mother and Child" theme I want the gift to have. I haven't really tried looking in catalogs or malls in earnest yet, so I can't say I've been working at this very long. Anybody out there have any neat ideas?

A:What a sweet husband you are! Your wife is lucky to have you. I don't know your wife, but I've been a new mother. I think there's something I'd want even more than a beautiful sculpture. How about a couple of weeks or so of the services of a doula--that is, the kind that cleans house, makes meals, and takes care of things so Mom can get to know the baby. My husband gave me a beautiful ring with our first child -- I still think of him when I wear it and will

eventually give it to him to give to his own wife -- or will it to him. With our second, he gave me an antique silver serving dish saying that 'it is time to start building heirlooms since we seem to be in the heir business'. She will get that someday. It thought both were cool. How about a ring with the babies birthstone? You can't go wrong with a nice piece of jewelry. A nice mother/child pendant with the baby's birthstone on it. This could become both a heirloom to pass down to the child and a special reminder for your wife. Can't speak for her but I know I would like this way better than a sculpture. Often women like something that can be worn.
