Master Degree Public Health

Q: I don't know from California's systems. I know New York City had public hospitals available to all at public expense as does Chicago today (Cook County Hospital.) Why would Long Beach, not a small community (or is it?) have only one facility with the capacity for handling female reproductive medical services? And if it is such an important facility, how did it escape from local control, let alone secular investment, and into the hands of the Catholic Church? Perhaps whoever pays the public health care tabs should decertify this hospital from receiving public funds and force all potential recipients to find the next nearest facility which is not Catholic owned? What's wrong with that solution?

A:Hospitals are BIG business! In my city there is a lawsuit pending over issues involving the board of directors revealing bonuses and perks. 60 Minutes devoted a segment to this story about 2 weeks ago. There was a woman in New Hampshire who was 2 months into a pregnancy. The pregnancy was failing due to her losing her water already. The doctor recommended abortion. The bishops, who had just been put in charge of the hospital

after a buyout, told the doctor not to perform an abortion. Furthermore, they told him to send her home. He ended up driving the woman to another town for the abortion. The main message Krishnamurti espoused was that we should do our own thinking, and not have anyone else do our thinking for us. I find that many people prefer to have others tell them what to believe, and why, so they don't have to figure out what to believe on their own. That happens regardless of the IQ of the person, or their economic level. In our culture, in the US, it seems to be an endemic problem. I don't know about other countries, as I don't have firsthand knowledge about what they do.
