Maryland Birth Records
Q: I just received back a notice from the Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene, Division of Vital Records, Baltimore; a notice that they could not supply me with my fathers birth record. The reason stated was "The issuance of an official transcript of a birth certificate, or any information therefore is restricted to the individual, a parent named on the certificate, the individual's legal guardian, accompanied by a court order stating such, or the lawful representative of the individual who can provide evidence of their representation". Now I am stuck: My father is dead, his parents are dead, no other relatives other than his wife (my mother) who I have legal power of attorney over. Has anyone any hints on what I should do to get a record from Maryland? If I don't hear from anyone by next week I will call them (that should be fun!) and let people know what I find out.
A: Since you have your mother's power of attorney, why not request your father's records in her name? Otherwise, you're in a real space-warp!
