Loose Diamonds

When you are buying loose diamonds, there is a saying that you are supposed to keep in mind which is often referred to as the 4 C's. These 4 C's stand for cut, carat, clarity and color. The cut of diamond is the shape you want the diamond be in. There are several standard shapes, each of them as diverse and special as the person you're purchasing the diamond for, such as princess, marquis, and emerald to name a few. The cut also refers to how well the diamond is cut, such as the proportion and symmetry of its facets. The more proportional the facets in a diamond, the more it will appear to sparkle when it is exposed to direct light. The Carat is the measurement of a diamond's weight. A metric carat is .2 grams. A carat is also often expressed as 200 milligrams, 1/5 gram, or 100 point. When you are purchasing loose diamonds, if all of the other aspects of the diamonds are equal, then the more carats a diamond is, the more it will cost. The Diamond’s Clarity measures the amount of inclusions in a diamond. The best diamonds are rated FL or IF, which stand for flawless or internally flawless. This means no inclusions are detectable,

even under a loupe with a 10 power magnification. Down the scale clarity is rated as Very, Very Slightly Imperfect, Very Slightly Imperfect, Slightly Imperfect, and then Imperfect. Imperfect diamonds have inclusion that is visible to the naked eye. Another thing to consider when purchasing loose diamonds, the last thing you'll look for is color. The diamond’s Color is rated on a scale from D to Z. D being colorless and Z being light yellow. Diamonds also come in a variety of other colors, too, such as pink or blue. Colored diamonds are most popular for jewelry such as rings and aren’t purchased as loose diamonds very often unless it is to specially design a certain piece of jewelry.
