Looking For Masters Degree, Computer Science ?

Q: Can anyone provide some ideas of accredited U.S. Universities offer advanced degrees in computer science or related fields via the internet or correspondence. As I'm an American living overseas, it's impossible to complete a dgree in residence. The only one I'm aware of is the Univ. of Phoenix.

A:I suggest getting Dr. Bear's book for a comprehensive, and informative, list of off-campus degree programs around the STates. In the mean time, here is a small list, of which you can take to your education officer, and get more info. Antioch University Short residency Antioch International Yellow Springs, OH 45387 1-513-767-1031 I triedto post a response to your question yesterday and apparently it didn't work properly. One Masters Program I would recommend you look at is the Independant Studies Masters at Concordia University Wisconsin. The school is part of the Concordia University system. The degree is fully accredited. The cost is roughly $900-$1000 per class. The program consists of twelve classes of which 1 is the masters project and the other is a special week long class held in the summer to teach you how to prepare your project. By the way the summer class is the only residency requirement. The program is designed to be guided independant study. The idea is that you will work closely with your instructor through the internet. You will study and work on assignments. Questions and assignment results will be sent via electronic mail. I have spoken to the head of the program and he said that

they are very interested in teaching CS concepts instead of languages. Therefore you should be able to use any language to perform your assignments as long as it matches the paradigm of the assignments. ( ie... lisp for AI projects, etc.) You can find additional information on their website at http://www.cuw.edu/independent.html#top (guided independent studies) or http://www.cuw.edu/graduate/programs/comp_sci.html (Computer Science curriculum portion). I hope this information helps. Recently I changed jobs and am waiting for things to stabilize before I formally start this program however, I am in the process of getting my admissions requirements out of the way.
