Laws Regarding Sexual Harassment
Q: I don't know beans about the law, but I gather a lot people want (and have)
individual laws regarding sexual harassment in particular. But instead
of having multiple laws, why not just have one law, and ENFORCE it,
and (in so doing) develop it?
A: While sexual harassment is a very serious thing, rules and laws designed to fight must not be specifically to protect women. Some people argue that they should not specifically refer to sexual issues. They probably don't need to. If too much emphasis is placed on sexual harassment, then the tension between the sexes will be increased, and there will be a loss of efficiency in pursueing real cases of harassment. Harassment at work or school, whether based on your gender, your race, your stature, or whatever, is pretty much the same thing, and can generally be dealt with the in the same manner.
