As the World Wide Web universe continues to expand exponentially so does the need for online security in a variety of ways. If your computer or network system does not have adequate protection, get ready to update it now, before tragedy strikes with irreversible damage. First, check your personal computer. Does it operate the way it should, or is it running more slowly these days? Are you getting funny messages from the internal programs (not email), or do you hear funny sounds or see unusual formatting on your screen? If something looks weird and you are reasonably sure the hardware is not aging or worn, chances are you may have a computer. Check your owner’s manual to find out how to run a security check. If you are unsure about how to do this, ask a service technician for assistance. Consider adding a firewall from one of the many great products that are currently available. Read the product reviews or ask a sales assistant for help in choosing one that is right for your computer. Next, check your software. Sometimes a new program, or one that is shared with other computers, can be corrupted and cause your computer to malfunction. Make sure every new application works correctly after installation. If it doesn’t, or if you have doubts, check your manual or run a test. If it appears suspicious, discard it and buy a replacement. Make sure your firewall or security software
