Internet Firewall

Does your computer need an Internet firewall? If it doesn’t have one, then you should indeed start looking for the one that will best suit your equipment and programs. Firewalls come in a variety of brand names and performance types. 1. Look for a firewall that is manufactured by the company that made your PC or one that recommends its use with PC’s like yours. Compatibility is important, so ask about a particular product if you don’t know whether it will work for your system. Better yet, spend time becoming familiar with various security programs and strategies. Then you will start to get a feel for what will work with your computer, and what will not. 2. Shop for the best firewall program. There may be no “best” program, but you should be able to find one that has the primary features that you are looking for. Some firewalls hold back questionable material from the Internet, while others focus on letting in acceptable material. Either way, there could be gaps, so make sure the program is configured in a way that will hopefully help it to filter data appropriately most of the time. 3. Use a layering system. In addition to installing a firewall at the Internet portal,

you should consider adding more security features at other points of the network. For example, an antivirus program for your email will help to prevent Trojans, worms, or other intruders from damaging your computer from this venue. A software screening program can help to prevent new software applications, or those interacting with programs and files from elsewhere, from spreading infection throughout your system. An Internet firewall is the first and perhaps most important step you can take to protect your equipment from danger. But don’t let it be your last. Coordinate security for all your computer systems to set up the best possible protection from the greatest number of invaders.
