How Do I Make Business Card Labels?

Q: How do I make business card labels? I am trying to make some business cards using Avery form #5371 using MS Word 97 SR-2 I have a document that works fine in WordPerfect. When I tried to import it into Word, it makes a mess. So I made a page that was 3-1/2 inches by 2 inches and got everything just as I want it (at least on the page layout screen.) Now I want to make a page of labels. I selected Envelops and Labels. Some of the page I made shows up but all wrong, and it cannot be (totally) edited. Also the graphic I am using doesn't show up. From the "Help" (Ha!) I determined that (I guess) I have to use mail merge to make labels. I Tried this and got some kind of "Wizard" that asked a lot of inappropriate questions for which there was no help. I tried to make the current document my "main" document, and tried to make file nul: the data. It forced me to save something, so I called

it temp. I gather I'm doing something wrong...It surely can't be this complicated to repeat the same page 10x on the form!

A: You can start by selecting Avery 5371 in the Tools | Envelopes and Labels dialog and "Full page of the same label." The problem is that you cannot place a floating graphic in a table cell (which is what the individual "labels" are), and therefore you cannot wrap text around the graphic. Depending on your layout, you may be able to get around this by splitting each cell in two. But a better way to do this is in Publisher, where you can lay out your business card once and then print 10 to a page using your specs.
