How About A Game Of Poker?
Poker is a card game that has been around a long time. Often alluded to in Western novels or films based on life in the Old West of the 19th century, a game of poker would set the scene for a conflict between good and bad guys who argued over who was cheating. Sometimes the game would end with a challenge to a shootout or a duel, or perhaps even a killing (in more ways than one) at the table. Certainly poker is a game with an exciting and checkered history. Many people today play poker when they casually gather with friends at someone’s house for a few low bets over beer and pretzels. A Friday evening out with the boys has become part of the American middle-class way of life. The basic form of the game involves a five-card hand that each person holds, with the highest hand (from Ace to two in descending order) taking a variety of forms. The highest-ranking cards hand takes the pot, which comprises the “ante” or betting amount that each person puts in to provide winnings for each hand. Winning card arrangements
