Heartburn Indigestion Symptoms

Q: In early pregnancy one of the symptoms is heartburn caused through indigestion. I quite often suffer from indigestion anyway because i bolt my food. I seem now though to get heartburn with it - would this be a pregnancy symptom? Also i a few weeks ago i was suffering with cramps and twinges - these have calmed down now but when i eat food i get the odd twinge in my stomach and back - anyone else had this? Can anyone help me please?

A:I had this for my first pregnancy...my doctor said tums everyday it was good for me and the baby...calcium. I have already had gas pains during my pregnancy so severe I had to leave church, I went home and soaked in hot bath water and then lay on the couch with my legs hanging over the back of the couch and this helped me out a lot. Yes, heartburn is definitely a pregnancy symptom.

Mine has usually been the worst during the 1st and 3rd trimester. 1st because of your hormones and 3rd because your stomach is smushed by the belly/baby. Tums (calcium carbonate) is a safe remedy. I never noticed twinges in my stomach or back...I always had ligament pain in my groin in the first trimester. That felt like twinges and a little bit crampy. I'm not sure how far along you are - or if you are even pregnant. But heartburn does ocuur in pregnancy... it can be worse for those who already experience it, and many times doesn't flare up until later in pregnancy when the stomach is being smashed by the growing baby - leaving very little room for the acid to stay in the stomach.
