Heartburn During Pregnancy
Q: I am 31 weeks now and all of a sudden I have terrible heartburn if i eat or
drink anything(including water) or just sitting around i tried Tums but i
don't want to OD on it does anybody have any advice for me?
can anyone in the group help me solve out this problem please?Because I don't want the heartburn during pregnancy to prolong for too much.
A:I am not pregnant right now but we want to try for our third child soon. I
have been trying to come up with a plan to deal with much anticipated
heartburn during the pregnancy. You see I have a hiatal hernia which
causes pretty severe heartburn. The medication I take (prilosec) cannot be
taken during a pregnancy. So...I have been doing quite a bit of research
to find out what I can do for the heartburn during a pregnancy. My
gastroenterologist told me there is a drug called carafate. You might want
to talk to your OB/GYN about this as a possibility. I have also found that
some doctors okay Zantac during pregnancy. Also, be real careful about
what you eat. Try to avoid tomatos, including tomato sauces, citrus,
coffee (including decaf), onion, anything spicy, caffeine and chocolate.
There is a newsgroup for heartburn sufferers you may want to check
out....alt.support.heartburn.
