Heartburn During Early Pregnancy
Q: Has anyone taken any medication to control their heartburn during their
pregnancy? I have very bad heartburn right now due to a medical condition
that I have and I am not even pregnant yet. However, I desparately want to
have more children and I'm trying to find out what I can do to control the
heartburn during a pregnancy. Any answers?? What I have is a hiatal
hernia. Part of my stomach is up in my chest cavity so the opening to my
esophagus stays open so I get acid reflux which causes heartburn. Will my
body ever be able to go through a pregnancy?? I've been told there are 2
different meds I can possibly take...zantac or carafate. Has anyone taken
either one of these or a different one? Have they helped?
A:I took Maalox almost the whole 9 months. That is what my DR told me to take. I
went through a bottle a week.
Ask your DR about it. My DR said that is really the only safe thing for
pregnant women but I was pregnant over 2 years ago so things may have
changed...
I am 11 wks with #2 and have started to suffer heartburn already! I
asked my midwife for any suggestions and was told she wouldn't
prescribe zantac during early pregnancy as there are so many changes
going on with the baby. I was given Maalox which works quite well,
although its not the nicest of stuff to take
