Q: i already go to doct.he gave me aspirin with 2 other medicines(GLYCERYL TRINITRATE and ISOSARBIDE).The chest pain comes while im resting.when i'm running or exercising, there was no pain at all.But my heartbeat was so fast.Even when resting, my heartbeat=over 90 heartbeat/min.Is that normal for a teen?please help me...i'm too young to have heart problems.. I have experienced pain on my chest. Is that angina or heartburn? Can anyone help me please?

A:Are you exhibiting the classic symptoms of angina with shortness of breath, heavy sweating, jaw pain or down the arm? I would be very skeptical about taking these medications for someone your age. I suggest seeing a Cardiologist, please have your doctor refer you to one! It is normal for a teen to have a heart rate of 90 bpm. This really does sound more like heart burn or acid reflux. Try over the counter medications like Pepcid or Zantac and see if these help. Check with the pharmacist though for interactions with the other meds you are taking I am a doctor. If you are in your teens i find it very very hard to

believe that you are experiencing angina. I find it strange that a doctor has given you GTN and a nitrate drug. You need to have an exercise ECG, if your doctor has given your GTN and nitrate without performing an exercise ECG or refering you to a cardiologist then this all sounds very strange. Some of the answers mention mitrial valve prolaspe, this kind of problem is due to a structural defect of the heart valve, not due to narrow coronary arteries. It would not be appropriate to treat valvular abnormalities with antianginal drugs (eg. GTN/Nitrates). Narrow coronary arteries cause angina, and are treated using GTN and nitrates. Teenagers do not typically have narrow coronary arteries.
