Heartburn And Acid Reflux Remedy Report

Q: I love apple juice and it is something I am supposed to drink more of while pregnant(ie juice period. ) . However lately I have been getting heartburn and acid reflux from it. It is very uncomfortable and makes me sad as I love apple juice. Anyone else have this happen to them? I really want to find a remedy to cure this because I love apple juice a lot All juices are good for our health I can't stop having orange juice everyday. Can anyone help me please? Also, can you show me some remedy reports to this so that I can base on that to choose the best cure for me?

A:I sympathize with you regarding heartburn. It seemed like my heartburn started in the late second trimester and just perservered until the end. There's a genetic link for heartburn, I just read, although I haven't read the details of the study that discovered this. I even get heartburn as part of PMS! Anyway, two things. First, IME, nothing in particular exacerbated my heartburn, with the exception of just being pregnant in general. Now that Tagamet and Pepcid AC are available over the counter, I would probably try taking one of those every morning (my OB, incidentally, offered to prescribe Tagamet for me, so I assume it's safe but you might want to verify with your doc or midwife). Second, why are you supposed to drink juice? That's a new one to me. Is it just that you're

supposed to drink more liquid in general? Apple juice is basically recognized as sugar water by your body, so you might be better off drinking water (even though, in my case, even *that* seemed to provoke heartburn). Also, apple juice (because of the fruit pectin I suppose) has been known to cause constipation in some people, which pregnant women are predisposed to anyway. Sounds like fishy advice, although I'm not challenging you. So basically I don't know the answer to your original question... but I'm sure there's a remedy for you. Ask your doc/mw about cimetidine (generic Tagamet)., it's the most effective thing out there. Tums and Rolaids just didn't cut it for me.
