Harrassment Via Email?

Q: Harrassment via email? My work colleauge is being sent horrible emails by members of her ex-husbands family. including swearing and name calling. also called her her murderer, and saying she abandoned her child. also another person has been harassing her friend for ages, and now is sending her messages of sexual nature, but not directed at her. rather describing sexual acts regarding her friend. she has never responded with swearing or insults, as she is a very timid, mild person. i have sent both these ppl emails to tell them its harrassment and whatever, but they persist. my poor colleauge is in tears and very distressed. i searched the web for some kind of legal resource, but it only relates to workplace sexual harrassment. i really want to nail these pricks for her sake. what can anyone suggest?

A: I hope that your co worker has kept the emails she has received they can be printed out and copied and sent to your state atty general office(via certified mail with return receipt)they usually have an electronic harrassment division(please check with them first)or something similar to that. It is possible for the AG Office to trrace these emails and where they are coming from(as in computer address along with physical address)The AG office should be able to file a complaint and charges against the server and against the one(s) who are harassing your co worker. Also when a complaint is filed with the AG office it is assigned a case number document all things pretaining to it.(It is very avisable for both of you to go and see the state AG at some point in time the story will come out better if there are 2 people invloved instead of one power in numbers)If these people email you anymore about they know what is going on at some point and time make a copy and keep it(don't tell just do it)this helps them to dig their own hole deeper. it may take a while but just keep it up contact the AG office and stay up on what is going on and do not let these people put your case on the back burner stay in their office on the phone or in person either way make sure they remember you. Also have her contact her divorce lawyer and give him or her the documentation of this(hey secret weapon here) I will say this and I don't think I am too far off the ones who are sending her these emails can have their accounts closed computers confiscated(if that happens have the law enforcement check the hard drive wonder what they will find on it? All it takes is reasonable suspicion just one anymonous tip and that gets the heart to wondering huh?)Also she can and should be able to sue the server for allowing the people to send her these emails(they have moderators and the moderators should be paying attention their accounts can be looked into and history viewed and if no one didn't notice after a while then thats not your problem is it?)The people who are sending her these emails can be sued by her(salt on a open wound really rubbing it in)They can be sued for harrasment

defamation of character and libel(she may not get anything but judgement but hey just so she gets hers)Also the senders can be made to pay her for the time she has to take off work to go to court to see about this and the mileage and wear on her vechicle. Also after this the senders may not get another email account it can and should be requested by her and if they get another computer their mail can be montiored by the court. If the AG office gives either of you the run around about this please feel free to contact your local federal elected officals and have them contact the server, and state AG office on your behalf(send documentation to all lawmakers the same way I mentioned before.
