Good Divorce Lawyer In New Jersey ???

Q: I (actually, a woman friend of mine) am looking desperately for a good tough divorce lawyer in NJ, to help with a very unpleasant (involving child custody) case. Any help appreciated...

A: -Sorry, I have no recommendations on particular attorneys. (My ex and I were fairly amicable, yet I couldn't recommend my guy too much even for those cases.) Still, it might help you get responses from others here if you said in what county or at least in what part of NJ the case is in. Also, if you know any other attorneys you feel good with, say, your real estate attorney from when you bought your house, then ask him/her for a recommendation (after describing the basics of the case and the qualities that you would value in a family law attorney for the particular job at hand). -Tell her to go to the court and watch the lawyers in court. Watch for a lawyer who works well with the judge and is doing a good job for the client. When the lawyer is leaving court ask for a card. Usually the lawyer will take a minute to see what you want. Interview the lawyer. Don't hire the first one. Hire the best one. Do as much footwork as you can for the lawyer. Don't drop you case in the lawyers lap. Don't call your lawyer 10 times a day. Use an "Incident Report Form" to let the lawyer know about things that worry you. Don't call.
