Get Work Permit After Filing The Application For Green Card

Q: I filed the application for my green card last Sept. My daughter sponsors my green card, she is U.S citizen. I didn't apply the work permit when I filed my green card application. Does anyone know how to apply the work permit in my case??

A: -I just heard an interesting tip: hire an attorney. I don't know if this works in all offices, but here in San Diego, the local INS office is open on Wednesday only for attorneys and their clients. Advantage: short lines, and you get an EAD immediately (I believe usually it takes a while in San Diego). But you must physically drag your attorney into the INS office. A friend of mine did that and got his EAD in two hours - official processing times are 60 to 90 days. -My only experience is with the Arlington office. Attorneys are allowed to file at the cashiers counter instead of the counters where the immigration information officers sit. That way they don't have to stand in line to get a ticket, etc. However, although some of them had their clients with them, those clients did not get given EADs same day (I was close enough to hear the various conversations). AFAIK, the EADs would take the same length as any other office.
