Formatting Letters On Letterhead

Q: Does anyone know how we can format a template for letters written on letterhead. The issue is that the first page will always have margins that are different that all proceeding pages because of the logo on the first page. Additionally, we cannot figure out how to have the printer pull the first page of a multiple page letter from one tray (filled with letterhead) and all proceeding pages from a separate tray (blank sheets matching the letterhead). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated from a start- up business.

A: - File > Page Setup > Paper. You can save these settings in your template, but if you have several different printers this may only work for the one you had selected when you made the setting (different printer drivers use different underlying values). (Catering for different printers without manually reselecting the settings can be done, but I doubt you need that degree of automation.)

- From File > page layout, set a different first page header (you can set the paper trays there too). Add a temporary manual page break You can now see what you are doing on first and subsequent pages. Use text boxes with no borders and wrap set in the first page header to push the text out of the way of the logo/margin. You can use a full height text box in the header to set left or right margin larger as required. When you are happy with first and subsequent page headers, delete the temporary page break. Save as a template. See Suzanne's web page on the subject at: http://home.zebra.net/~sbarnhill/Letterhead.htm and also http://www.gmayor.com/Macrobutton.htm
