Dental Lab Schools
Q: I see various dental faculty at our local college. One DDS advised he
does not use labs in the school for 'partials'. He "prefers to chose
his own lab". Is there a standard for dental school labs? Are they
rated or licensed? I thought faculty would be "the very best"
available and have state of the art labs. Suggestions???
A:IME, the Dental School lab techs are the best you can get. They have to
be to deal with the slop the dental students give them. If you practice
in your school's area, try to find out if your tech works for a private
lab as well. That's what I did, as the lady who did most of my fixed
prostho work is now with a local lab. Once your tech knows what you do,
s/he can evaluate the work better. Your communications are that much
more meaningful...
The dental school labs have an adsvantage. The bossman can slip in a
case or two that his doc friend wants done, so the doc gets half the
going rate and the bossman gets FREE CASH to supplement his salary
income.
