Credit Check Agency

Q: Here is the situation. Made an internet purchase from Boots.com using my credit card, it was used on to make a purchase on items with a 50% reduction offer, that ran for just that day. Boots did a security check with Expedian a credit check agency. My order is now on hold, I rang boots to see if I could progress my order using a different credit card, Boots stated I could re-order using the website, which by now is of no use because the 50% offer has closed. The transaction they have on hold is valid for 20 days, so I ring Experian they state they require £2.50 for a credit report which they will send to me, on reciept of this I should ring them back and discuss the situation. I used the same credit card to pay Experian the £2.50 which was fine. Any clues as to what the hell is going on here?

A: AFAIK Boots can't do a credit

check on you without your permission - and it would only be appropriate if they were giving you credit. Dunno anything about "security checks" with Experian though. Is your credit card registered to the address you gave Boots? Is there sufficient credit available for the order? Have you spoken to your credit card company? How do you know that Boots did a security check with Experian? Have they said that there is a problem with your card? There are reports on alt.consumers.uk-discounts.and.bargains of Boots being economical with the truth about the bungled offer, and trying to fob people off, but I got my stuff this morning, and at the end of the day, that's what's important .
