Council Bluffs Iowa- Any Recommended Campgrounds??

Q: We are taking a spur of the moment trip (the weekend of Aug.18,19 &20th) and will be attending an event in Council Bluffs. We would like to camp but are not familiar with the campgrounds. We would like to have hot showers (or warm) and flush toilets. Shade would be nice as well as something to do in the campground-whether it is hiking or swimming or bike riding- Does anyone in the group have any recommendations? Are there any places to avoid? Any names, numbers as well as approximate location would be really appreciated.

A: Last year, we stayed in a public campground a little north of the area. We were pleased with the place. I don't recall the name, and I don't recall which side of the river it is on. There's a great wetland sanctuary nearby where you can watch wildlife below from huge windows, and also a museum which contains oodles of stuff recovered from a steamboat which sank in the river about a century ago. Hiking trails at the camp are very nice, shade trees are all over the place, flush toilets OK, showers OK but stained from iron in the water. If you want more info, I'll ask my wife -- she'll probably remember.
