Constipation Cause Heartburn

Q: Constipation is often associated with a lack of dietary fiber. Meat and dairy products do not contain dietary fiber. The average intake of dietary fiber for Americans is 12 grams per day, it should be 30-35 grams per day. Diets that provide more than 35 grams of dietary fiber per day show lower mineral absorption but a higher fiber intake usually means a higher mineral intake so the actual amount of mineral that your body gets (absorbs) should be okay as long as you get your fiber from food and not a bottle Does anyone here have any comment about the fact that Constipation Cause Heartburn I mainly agree with this idea.. Should I go along with this recipe?

A:Over my 20+ years in general/family practice I have certainly noted that milk, and especially cheese, cause constipation in many people. This seems to be many times more common than lactose intolerance. Cheese is of course very clay-like and generally retains that nature when exiting our bodies. Milk, when it strikes stomach acidity, apparently curdles, forming something that is somewhat like cheese. In short, I think the reason milk and cheese tend to be constipating is because of these physical characteristics. Many foods can be compared this way. If, for example, one were to eat primarily bread, then their stools would tend to look like wet bread that has been squeezed in the hand, forming a decent log-shape. This would generally be well formed and cohesive. (Gluten intolerance

and sprue would of course be different.) Watery acidic foods like fruit tend to produce a stool that is what one would expect given their nature. With meats, the stool generally tends toward constipation. With a well-mixed diet it is unlikely that any one food would dominate the stool character. Yougurt, on the other hand, shares properties of fruits (acidic) AND milk. It is, in excess, an aggravator of heartburn. Yogurt does not tend toward constipation. All of the above is, as I mentioned, based on my experience with patients over the last 20+ years. It is not intended to be gospel for all communties, races, gepgraphic locations, etc. As to nonfat cheese ... I do not know.
