Colonial Clothes
Colonial Clothes have been around for a long time, looking back at the eighteenth century we find beautifully designed clothing made mostly of colors that were gray, brown, dark green, and violet. These were the most popular colors used at this time. The materials were spun at home from natural resources. They had both formal and informal clothing. To us today we may not see a lot of difference between the two when looking at the women’s clothes because even the informal dresses were elegant. They had big full skirts attached to the top part of the garments, which usually fit rather tightly. Most of these outfits were made of brightly colored materials and some were decorated in some form. The skits of the formal dresses were so large they required large hoops to help hold out the material. Bonnets are hats were also worn and were decorated with lace. When schools put on plays in their auditoriums Colonial clothes are often used for the costumes the actors will were. This is because the clothes make a great statement when trying to reenact how people lived and dressed in pilgrim days. Little
