Children's Clothes

Children's clothes are very fun to look at and shop for. Often time children's clothes are simply miniature representations of adult clothes, while other times children's clothes are very unique and specific to children. Meaning, even if we did cut a certain outfit to fit an adult, it would still look like children's clothes. When I hear someone say "childrens clothes", the first thing that comes to my mind is the children's clothing label, Granimals. For those of you not familiar with children's clothes, Granimals was a manufacturer that created clothing that had labels with animals attached to them. Each animal would represent a certain style or color grouping. Children would match labels to create their own outfits. Monkeys would go with monkeys and elephants matched elephants. To this day, I still consider the Granimal label a great idea. Children love to be independent and one way they like to express their independence and individuality is through children's clothes. By using the Granimal

system, children are able to dress themselves and feel more independent, without clothes the parents would otherwise not want the child to wear publicly. Children's clothes can have an impact on how they feel about themselves and see themselves. For example, when little girls want to feel like a princess, they will wear a dress, tights and shoes. Little boys will opt for athletic gear when they want to feel strong and tough, like their superheroes. It is important to teach children how to dress well and that first impressions do make a difference in how they are treated. Children's clothes have the ability to give the child a nonverbal voice in who they are and how they feel.
