Cheap Cheap Cheap.... 18K Gold Ring!!!!

Q: Selling a never used (whew) lol a 18K Yellow and white gold, lady's diamond engagement ring, weighing approx. 4.2 grams, containing 1 only round modern cut brilliant diamond, weighing approx. .33 carats. Retail Value: $1800.00 Plus Applicable Taxes. Bought last year and has NEVER been worn. Selling for 900.00 taxes included.

Isn't the ring a token of affection and love? I think you're confused about something along the way. If a ring is 18k white gold, it is *solid* white gold. The 18k refers to the fact that anything other than 24k gold is actually an alloy of various metals It's the other metals alloyed with the gold that change the color (e.g., alloy it with one set of metals and you get white gold, another set of metals and you get red/rose gold, or yet another set of metals to get yellow or green gold). Pure 24k gold can only be yellow,

because gold is yellow. It's the other metals that change the color when alloyed with the gold. Just as with yellow gold, you can plate a baser metal with white gold, in which case you have a white gold-plated ring, but that's different from an 18k white gold ring, which would be solid white gold. The main difference between platinum and an 18k (or 14k) white gold ring would be that the platinum ring will be harder, because platinum is harder than gold (especially higher carat gold, which is softer than lower carat gold). So, the white gold ring with scratch more easily. On the other hand, it also polishes up more easily ;-)
