Chargers And Qualcomm Stadium

Q: Lets face it this is our team. The Chargers have built a great franchise and spending the money and signing good players to long term contracts shows that they are committed to putting a good product on the field. But even in the bad years we were proud of our team. The Qualcomm site is the perfect location. Plenty of room, trolley service, freeway access from every direction, and it's in our city. Why give this up just so the city can sell it off to the fattest developer to balance the books? The developer will build another mall or another 5000 condos. Do we really want to turn that land into another mall or condo development on Friars road that will look like Orange County in a few years? Has anybody on the city council noticed how quiet it is on the streets when the Chargers are playing? We love this team. Monday night games showing pictures from the Goodyear blimp of downtown, the bay, the ocean, Point Loma to La Jolla, it makes us the envy of the country. And I for one am mighty proud of it. I say we get the deal done, there needs to be some give and take, but our city council has to realize that this team is something that we want to keep. Could you suggest us some solutions to our problem?

A: -Cut and paste this post into an email or letter and send it to your representative on the council or to the mayor's office- or both- go ahead and send it to the OpEd department of the UT and the NCT while you're at it... Let them know how you feel. -If your city council is anything like Fresno your screwed. Here is what Fresno did... A developer want to build a racing facility here Nascar and the NHRA were on board and fully commented. A guarantee cash flow estimated for the City of Fresno for a year +10,000,000.00. They nixed it as one council member put, "

We do not want those types here " reporter question what type is that? " You know those beer drinking, sleeveless shirted red necks " The city council opted for a LPG golf course, it is now tit's up! -The city faces financial ruin but REF wants to fire the only person at the city who is trying to find a way not to pay the ridiculous pension/health benefits. You may not like his style...I don't like his style...but if it wasn't for Aquirre none of the citizens of San Diego would have a chance of finding out how their city got so f'ed up. Look back to this article of 2006 where the focus wasn't on how the city went broke but how they lied about it in bond offerings.
