Business Education Teacher, Why Did You Become A Teacher?
Q: I am looking for information about what brings people into education. I
would appreciate hearing from people about why they became teachers. If
you can help, I'd really appreciate it.
A:I'm especially interested in this query because I am thinking of
becoming a teacher. I hope this gets some response and that at least a
few people slam what I say below because I'd like to make this choice
with the clearest understanding of what I'm getting into. Forgive my
wordiness.
For the last 10 years I've been working as an engineer for a couple of
major corporations. Although I'm fairly successful at it, I've come to
the conclusion that I'm burned out and need to find a more personally
fulfilling career.
I'll tell you why I'm thinking of becoming a teacher:
(1) I've had a few limited occasions where I've taught or tutored and
found it satisfying.
(2) I've been told by many people that I'm good at explaining things.
(3) The purpose of teaching (educating/guiding/opening young minds)
seems more worthy than making money for a corporation. This is important
to me.
(4) The Math and Science is what drew me into engineering.
