The object of the game is to have your card in your hand total 21, but not any more. The basic rules of black jack are as follows: the dealer will deal two cards to every player face down to start. You are not to show your hand until you are finished the hand. If your cards are below 21, you may request one card at a time in order to get you closer to 21 without going over. If you go over 21 the game is over and the dealer wins. If you wind up with the same face value of the cards as the dealer, the dealer still wins. Unless of course you get a black jack hand in the first deal which consists of an immediate win. A black jack hand is made when you get 21 with the first deal. The hand includes Ace and a J, Q, K, or 10 on the first deal. When it comes to strategy, there are two main points to make. The first one is when you choose to double down; which is when you split your two cards, by placing them face up on the table instead and doubling your bet. A good time to double up is when you have been dealt two cards that equal 11 (5,6) and the dealer is showing a total of 5. When you double up, you are then dealt one extra card face down, this forces the dealer to match you. Since the dealer is playing blind, you often have a good chance at winning the hand. You will double down when these hand come up: If you show a total value of 9, 10, or 11 with your hand and the dealer’s hand shows: 7, 8, 9, 10, or ace. Splitting your hand is a popular strategy when you are showing pairs in your hand. This is basically just dividing your one hand into 2 hands instead. You should split you hand when your hand shows a pair in A, 9, 8, 7, and sometimes sixes, but you should only split if the dealers hand is showing: any of the same pairs in his hand.
