Bankrupcy And Applying For Student Loans

Q: Does anybody know if those who have been declared bankrupt are able to apply for Student loans? Also it is my understanding that those declared bankrupt may not act as solicitors or barristers. Is this still the case and does the bankruptcy ban entry from those professions permanently?

A: - I imagine if you havent been released from your bankruptcy, then no you cannot apply for a student loan. If you have been discharged then you can get the student loan. - Again, from what I was told when I went bankrupt, you cannot become a lawyer/solicitor if made bankrupt in the past. If you can become a solicitor after shaking a baby to death in America, I'm sure they wouldn't turn down a bankrupt which at least shows 'interest in money'. - Bankruptcy per se will not prevent you being a barrister or solicitor but the circumstances surrounding the bankruptcy will be thoroughly investigated to determine whether you acted dishonestly in any way. As I understand it you can become a lawyer if you are a discharged bankrupt but not a current one. .
