Application Card Credit Scam Scams Good Or Bad
Q: Please can somebody give me some advice, to summarise my situation, I own a business/company. Someone took out a credit card application without my consent/knowledge. He or she somehow manage to pick up a phone call from my premises to confirm they are resident at this address, thus the credit card company issued the card to this address. He or she also managed to intercept the mail which contained the credit card. Ran up the credit card bill until over-limit. Now the credit card company wanted to claim this money against me, being the owner of this business/company. I do know he/she is an illegal immigrant, but I have no way of knowing where abouts he/she is. What steps can I take to prove I am innocent? Why did the credit card company accept the application so easily?
A: If you neither signed the credit card application form nor the slips when the goods were bought, you have no liability. The mere fact that you own the premises from which the scam was done does not make you liable. It is highly likely that the credit card company will call in the police and they may wish to question you. I do trust you were not employing an illegal immigrant which is, in itself, an offence. .
