Any Information About Nys Drivers Ed?

Q: My friends roommate lives in Avon, NY, and frequently takes trips to Canada. He went with his parents and grandparents one day not long ago, and crossing back into the US, the border official asks everyone what nationality they were. They all reply "American", except for his grandfather who jokingly said "Russian". The guard gave him a weird look. He then said, "I'm just joking, i'm American". The not-so-easily-amused guard told them to pull off to the side. ANother official came to the car, and asked him what his nationality was, and he said "American". THe official's response was "prove it. Lets see some documentation" He whips out his driver's licence with his Avon address on it, and the border official just shook his head. "Thats not good enough. THat proves who you are, but does not prove your citizenship. I need to see a voters registration certificate, birth certificate, social security card, or passport." (as a side note, a German national exchange student at my HS took drivers ed, and got a NYS drivers license with the address of her host family on it, so no, drivers licenses do not prove citizenship). So, sometime after he admitted that he had no documentation, the border guards started to realize maybe his comment was just a joke, so revoked his demand to see documentation. He let them all leave the car and go inside the office while someone contacted federal officials by phone to confirm his citizenship. THen they were all on their way.....6 hours after they arrived at the border.... Any information about Nys Drivers Ed?

A:Yep. Just goes to show the border inspectors have NO

sense of humor. A buddy of mine used to go from his house in San Diego across to Tijuana to fill up the tanks on his Chevy Suburban (he had extra, extra tanks) as the fuel was only pennies a gallon. On one return trip across the border, the inspectors asked where he was coming from, he replied "Mexico". That set the wheels in motion for a couple more inspectors to come over, send my buddy and his Suburban trough secondary inspection, and seven hours later he got home from making a routine gas run. Needless to say, on subsequent gas-ups in Tijuana, he just told the inspectors he made a quick trip across to gas up the vehicle, and just got waved on through with a smile.
