Acid Reflux Prevention

Q: I am pretty sick. Have had a lot of stomach problems. Severe acid reflux, vomiting, etc. Next Tuesday I have to go to Toronto for test. They put tube up your nose, down your throat into the stomach. It's hooked up to some kind of monitor and has to stay in for 24 hours. I am a wreck about it. I don't know if I can even go through with it. I have to stop taking all acid prevention drugs now for a week and am dying. I was taking Neurontin for headaches, but stopped for awhile, because they would never stay down. Seemed pointless. It's so hard to get people to understand what it is like to feel sick to your stomach all the time. Worst is having to cook meals, and wanting to be sick while you are doing it. Can anyone in the group help me please?

A:I know this test next week is scary to think about, but it will help you in the long run. My dad had it done a few months ago...actually he had to have that tube in for like 2 weeks with a bunch of other tubes too. He said that initially it was uncomfortable, but that he got used to it. Just remember that it will help you get better with respect to the stomach problems, and hopefully that will make it a little less uncomfortable. I have had stomach problems too, and I know what you are going through. Maybe the doc could Rx you some Phenargan suppositories to prevent nausea and vomiting. Then maybe the Neurontin would stay down.
