Acid Reflux Medicine

Q: This concerns me very much. My primary symptom (from a pain perspective) is an ear ache just as you have described. It rises and falls in intensity with the rest of my symptoms. I have always presumed that my ear aches were circulatory, related, perhaps, to hypotension is this related to acid reflux. If so, how can I find the suitable medicine for this?

A:Have you ever had an ENT check you out? For years upon years I would get an ear ache that I assumed was due to some virus or something. Finally once when it was very bad, I saw the ENT my husband goes to for the tubes in his ears. The ENT checked out my ears and could find nothing wrong. Then he stuck some kind of scope up my nose and down into my throat and looked around. He told me the ear pain was caused by acid reflux because he could see my throat was all red. He told me that the pain was in my throat but my brain was registering it as in my ear because the nerve centers are close together (or something like that, I'm not a doctor) I found this hard to believe because I had never experienced heartburn, so how could I have acid reflux? Well, I took the acid reflux medicine he prescribed for a month (Prevacid) and changed my eating habits, especially not eating right before laying down and

avoiding certain foods, and sure enough, the ear pain went away. When I go back to my old habits, then the ear pain comes back. So the doc was right. The ear pain is really in my throat and it's caused by acid reflux. I should have had an ENT check me over years ago. It would have saved me a lot of misery. I was really amazed that this doc could spot the problem right away. Usually docs can never find any evidence that anything is wrong with me. So it was amazing to have a doc actually find the source of my ear pain and be able to treat it. So if you haven't been checked by an ENT you might want to consider having that done. It could be there is a simple solution to your ear pain.
