Acid Reflux In Babies

Q: Any of you guys have experience with acid reflux in infants. Do they outgrow it? My little girl is 8 weeks old and has acid reflux. Typical symptions are turning the head and arching the back. Doc gave her propulsid and zantac. She is bottle fed and I have to thicken her feedings with rice cereal. Most of the time this works fine. But occasionally, some evenings it doesn't, and all she does is cry. Does anybody else have experience with this? Did you have to do anything beyond this. Experience with gastro intestinal docs? It just hurts me to see an infant in such pain.

A:We have been dealing with infant reflux for ten years. My child suffered with this illness and I can understand what you are going through. We tried thickened feedings and medications for the reflux. My doctor told me that surgery was next unless I could elevate his bed at 30 to 45 degrees. Yes, I told him that he was crazy. Out of desperation I designed, "The Tucker Sling". This sling simply holds the infant in an elevated position in the crib. Becasuse of this device my child didn't need surgery. The sling is great and also can be used to elevate infants with other disorders such as: upper respiratory disorders, colic, colds and any other illness requiring elevation
