Acid Reflux Cough
Q: I have had a problem for at least a year now. My voice
would go hoarse for atleast a month (with no cold) I would
cough a lot. I went to a specalist for asthma and he tried
everything he could. He finially sent me to an ear nose and
throat specalist. He diagnosed me with Acid Reflux. I still
cough a lot morning, day and through the night. The
medicine he put me on helps a little. Prevacid and
Ranitidine. I have done the things that the doctor has told
me to do, but I keep having this cough that wakes me up
several times during the night. Has anyone ever had this
kind of problem? Sometimes my cough is very dry, sometimes
I have a lot of mucas. I need some help
A:I have had similar spasms. In my case it was due to reflux that caused
acid to hit the vocal cords and it was like having a cork in your throat. You can't breath until the cord relax. Until we identified the cause, these episodes were scary. The cure for me (more like a work around than a cure) was to stay on my reflux meds (prosilec, pecid and claritin).
I have had similar cough/voice and throat problems. In addition to the
acid blocking meds (prosilec and pepcid)
my doctor put me on claritin. This combination seems to control the
situation. Apparently my reflux was
aggrivated by alergies.
