Acid Reflux Apple Cider

Q: I have GERD (gastroesophogeal reflux disease) and am taking Prevacid for it right now. I read on some Health sites that you should avoid coffee and chocolate and tea, due to either caffiene or the acidic content, which can aggravate the reflux problem. My question is, when it gets cold in the winter, what does a GRED patient drink to stay warm if they should not have coffee, or hot tea?

A:Many herbal teas are caffeine free. You can look up the healing properties of the various herbs in John Lust's *The Herb Book* or a similar work. Apple cider is great served warm. Heated water and lemon is another really cheap alternative. Chamomile tea is known as a carminative amongst many. Carminative is a word used to describe the ability of an herb to ease digestive discomfort. Ginger is also a great one to use to ease digestive discomfort and keep you warm I use an acid reduced brand of instant coffee called Kava Coffee. I like it, though if you are used to brewed, you have to get used to it.
