80’s Fashion Remains At Bay

It has now been long enough that 80’s fashion should be making its resurgence. However, the fashion plates and the pages of stylish magazines have remained blissfully empty of any “vintage” clothing from the 80’s era. The closest we got to a flashback to the 80’s was multitudes of thin bracelets. And that is bearable. While it is possible to find 80’s fashion still, the fact of the matter is it will be quite sometime (never in this life time if we are lucky) before 80’s fashion makes the rounds again. It is unusual for a fashion decade to not make a comeback at some point in the future. However, retro in the past few years has pretty much stayed on the 60’s and 70’s. Even the venerable 50’s has seen a slight resurgence (along with some modernizing) lately. Bohemian is back in for the second time since it was first in. For some reason 80’s fashion has just not quite made it back into the mainstream. Maybe it is because we realize how over the top and excessive 80’s fashion was. Maybe it is because we look at those old pictures and there is no way to rationalize much of that clothing ever looking good. After all, no matter how silly those bell bottoms looked, with a slight reduction in the flare, they look rather hip. There is

no way to tell yourself that those ratty torn neon sweaters hanging off one shoulder will ever look good. So it appears that 80’s fashion has disappeared from all but school yearbooks and movies made in that era. And it does not look as though this particular fashion decade will be reborn as something more modern and chic. After all, this is the decade that recognizes the femininity as a good thing, not something to be doffed so that women can have massive should pads to help them look like men. So, let us be glad to leave 80’s fashion where it is, and only dust it back for silly flashback parties, where people only wear the clothes because they anticipate that they will be drunk anyway.
