-Filed AOS In Houston Yesterday, But...
Q: I was under the impression that I would get some sort of stamp in my passport, or at least something to remember my wonderful 6 hour visit to the INS office. All I got was a receipt for all the money they took So, I have my passport, with no stamp or I-94 card (they took it) is this normal? I'm also unsure what to do now. Will they advise me when I need to get a medical, or should I just go do it anyway? What about my criminal record? Do I have to apply to Scotland Yard in England by myself, or do I need some sort of authorisation from the INS to do this? Totallylost.
A: Hang on that receipt, it is your ONLY proof that you filed AOS. They will eventually call you for fingerprints, and do an FBI check, that will be the only criminal record check that you will get or need. Wait on the medical. They will take many months to process this baby. You will get a notice for an interview, and when you get that, go get your medical done then. You can see current AOS processing times reported by your office here, it will give you an idea of how long you will have to wait for a green card. If you did not file for a work authorization (EAD) card yesterday, copy your little receipt and send it to the INS; you file an I-765 form for a work authorization card.
