Cancer Group Halts Financing to Planned Parenthood

Pam Belluck | Jan 31

NYT - In a decision that is inflaming passions on both sides of the abortion debate, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is cutting off its financing of breast cancer screening and education programs run by Planned Parenthood affiliates.

A spokeswoman for the Komen foundation, Leslie Aun, told The Associated Press that the main factor in the decision was a new rule adopted by Komen that prohibits grants to organizations being investigated by local, state or federal authorities. Ms. Aun told The A.P. that Planned Parenthood was therefore disqualified from financing because of an inquiry being conducted by Representative Cliff Stearns, Republican of Florida, who is looking at how Planned Parenthood spends and reports its money.

This is beyond outrageous, in my opinion...

Huffington Post (Laura Bassett)-
Breast cancer charity giant Susan G. Komen for the Cure on Tuesday did not renew a grant to Planned Parenthood to fund breast exams. The move comes less than a year after Komen hired a new vice president, who has publicly stated her opposition to abortion, a service provided at some Planned Parenthood facilities.

Komen's new vice president, Karen Handel, had run for governor of Georgia in 2010 on an aggressively anti-abortion and anti-Planned Parenthood platform and was endorsed by Sarah Palin because of her opposition to reproductive choice. Handel wrote in her campaign blog that she "do[es] not support the mission of Planned Parenthood."

Not only stop donating to Pink, but will actively protest Pink events and make sure the participants know why.

It is worth remembering that the Founding Fathers were all traitors.

not supporting the Pink Breast Cancer campaign. It's a racket, anyway. In the documentary, Pink Ribbons, Inc, Canadian filmmaker Léa Pool points out the hypocrisy of letting corporations that produce cancer-causing agents front many of the fundraising events.”

The film also looks at the discrepancy of the pink ribbon campaign’s focus—treatment and cure are favored over primary prevention, to the virtual exclusion of the latter. More

Then there's this ... a new paper in the Journal of Marketing Research suggests, the association of breast cancer with the super-girly color pink hurts more than helps with actual breast cancer prevention behavior.

And this article questions the focus on breast cancer when more people die of prostate and lung cancer.

It makes more sense to donate money to foundations that focus equally on prevention and seeking a cure for all cancers.
