Denmark is the happiest country in the world, a new survey says.

July 28

Aljazeera.net - Danes came out top in the survey that measured health, wealth, education, sense of identity and the aesthetic quality of the landscape.

The survey, published on Friday by a University of Leicester academic, showed seven of the top ten happiest countries were western democracies, with the Bahamas, Bhutan and Brunei being the exceptions.

The United States was 23rd, Germany came in at number 35, and Britain ranked 41st.

"When people are asked if they are happy with their lives, people in countries with good health care, a higher GDP (gross domestic product) per capita, and access to education were much more likely to report being happy," said Adrian White, the social psychologist who carried out the latest study.

The latest Top Ten happy nations are:

1. Denmark
2. Switzerland
3. Austria
4. Iceland
5. Bahamas
6. Finland
7. Sweden
8. Bhutan
9. Brunei
10. Canada

Comment:
The data of Finland might have been collected in summer time. At least having a rank higher than Sweden makes Finns happy. I think that he forgot Norway on 19th place.

I duplicated your diary a bit. I didn't see it.

But I notice even more now that Social Democracy correlates well with happiness--Sweden, Finland and Canada make the top ten also.

Heritage, American Enterprise Institute, Cato, all rightwing ideologues....

YOU ARE WRONG!

But of course, GDP per capita may hide very unequal concentrations.   So it would be interesting to see a similar study but correlated with a measure of inequality.  But this table shows that Denmark is also THE MOST EQUAL society in the world.

Wow.   Most equal.   And most happy!
